Die Mucklas und wie sie zu Pettersson und Findus kamen is a 2022 german feature film, building on the Pettersson and Findus universe established by Sven Nordqvist. It was an honor to work on an IP that I loved since my childhood.
I worked on a lot of different tasks for this film, but I mainly did Lighting (Integration shots and some Shot Lighting for CG shots), Modelling, most prominently the Back wall of the Wine Cellar Environment, which I also did the Shading and Texturing for. Further I also worked on Fluid Simulation in the Mushroom Cave they ride through.
Here are some of the Integration Shots I worked on, where I modelled the Scene Geo as Shadow Objects and for the animation, and I did light matching, with HDRIs as a Basis and some VRay Lights on top. I also did test renders with stand ins and Compositing to Integrate them into the Plate:
Here you can see my work with the back wall of the wine cellar location, of which I did the Modelling, Texturing and Shading of the Stones. The Mucklas got into a fight here, because they each thought they knew best where to go, so there are the three holes through which they venture further, each going into one. This was at first done by just a textured wall with cutouts. You can spot this texture in the very first shot above the ladder, where the stones get a little more flat, but since they needed more closeup shots that amount of detail was absolutely not enough, so I used the patchwork of the stone wall texture as a guide to model the lower stones as well as the mortar in between. Finally I textured and shaded the mortar and the stones, for which i did a few different stone materials to give the impression of a selection of stones being used and to give a rougher natural stone texture, that looked realistic.
I also had a lot of fun working on Fluid Simulation using Phoenix FD in 3ds Max to simulate the water the Mucklas are riding through in a Teapot, which you can see below:
