Roll With Me is a short documentary that was shot for the Documentary Course at HdM Stuttgart. It portrays the Stuttgart Valley Roller Derby Team, especially one player, Artemis, who gives an insight into her experience with roller derby and it’s meaning in her life.
This documentary was produced with an international team of students since the course was one of the international courses at HdM. One of the members has a sister who is also playing roller derby and knew of the SVRD Team, through which we got the connection and idea, to shoot our documentary about roller derby.
We visited one game and a training session, during which we got to interview Artemis. Sadly I was sick during the training session shoot, but the rest of the team did a great job in shooting that. Otherwise I shot with one of the two cameras at the game and set up the third.
And finally the bulk of it all was the edit, which I’m still proud of. I iterated a bit until the storyline around artemis formed and I centered the rest around the arc constructed out of the interview.
I also did the Thumbnail, which I leaned on the Logo and Font used by the SVRD Team.
